dengue strikes both

joaquin and jana caught the life threatening dengue fever last aug. 21, 2012.

it was a traumatic week for the family, on early monday morning on aug. 21, 2012 a knock on the door awakened both me and babes. it was joaquin we thought that he might had some headache and trouble walking but no when i opened the door, he showed me that his nose was bleeding.  he and jana had fever 3 days ago and it was gone...then sunday they both had some remission with fever again so seeing that his nose was bleeding...it really frightened us since it one of the symptoms of dengue which is life threatening.  rushed him to the nearest comcare, a 24 hour clinic equipped with a lab, the nearest from our home and he was positive for dengue......wit was supposed to fly that day but good thing that she has not yet left for her work.  she called and took an emergency leave at work... we were advised by the clinic to rush joaquin to the emergency hospital ...so we did and we decided to bring also along jana for we want her tested as well.  arrived at lourdes hospital and joaquin was given dextrose to help improve his platelet count which was down by 70 already.  when the resident doctor screened jana for dengue....they did screening test which is tourniquet method and less than a minute rashes came out of her arms and also positive with dengue........both were admitted at the hospital jana was only a short stay for about 2 days only but joaquin stayed for 5 days.......tawa-tawa drink brought by lola precy and lolo pepe did help out very well in raising the platelet count.  jana recovered very well and she was out within 2 days, her dengue strain was not strong....joaquin stayed for a couple more days since his heartbeat was low and was being observed.....2d echo was performed and found out he has cardio mayocarditis - which is an inflammed heart and some liquid in it...joaquin felt bad since he has to rest for 6 weeks and will miss the annual UAAP swim competitions this year......well we will be back next year.....julia would be the one competing in the coming g league.....
